Puppy vaccinations
Puppies are vaccinated against a number of potentially fatal diseases. These diseases include Parvo, Weil's disease, distemper and infectious liver disease. In order to develop good protection, the puppy should be vaccinated against 6, 9 and 12 weeks of age. The puppy is then protected until the vaccination on 1 year of ageIf the puppy is going abroad (including Germany), a rabies vaccination is also mandatory. This vaccination is mandatory from 3 months age 3 years valid. If the puppy goes to a course or to a boarding house, a kennel cough vaccination is advisable and at most kennels even mandatory. Read more about vaccinations, the necessity of them and what exactly you can expect on the page 'Health check and vaccinations'.
Deworming
All puppies have worms. They are infected during pregnancy in the mother's womb and after birth via the mother's milk. Your puppy does not necessarily get sick from this and an infection often remains unnoticed. However, the worms they excrete are dangerous to the environment. Children in particular are sensitive to the larvae. The puppy should therefore be on 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks én at 3, 4, 5 and 6 months of age to be dewormed and then every 3 months lifelong.
Fleas and ticks
Fleas are small creatures that live in your puppy's fur. No matter how clean you keep your puppy, there is always a risk of flea infestation. The puppies can also have fleas from the nest. In addition to fleas, there is also the risk of contracting ticks if your puppy goes outside. A tick attaches itself to the skin and can transmit various diseases. All the more reason to protect your puppy against this. There is a wide range of modern and safe products. For advice, you can always contact one of our assistants.
Chip
It is mandatory to have your puppy chipped. The chip is a transponder that is smaller than a grain of rice. Puppies are often chipped in the litter. If you are wondering whether your puppy is chipped, you can have it read at the practice. Make sure that you also register the chip with your contact details (www.chipnummer.nl).
Nutrition
The growth phase that your puppy is currently in is essential for the rest of its life. In this phase, a good, complete diet is important to prevent problems later in life. The advice is to provide 3 meals a day up to 4 months of age and then reduce this to 2 meals at 6 months of age. Read more about our range of food on the page 'power supply'.
Spay/neuter
If you do not intend to breed with your puppy, we always recommend neutering/castrating. This is due to health problems that often occur in older animals that have not been neutered/castrated. Neutering of the bitch preferably takes place around the age of 6 to 7 months. Neutering of the male is possible from the age of 6 months.
Puppy guidance
We offer puppy guidance from the practice. There are no costs involved. During the guidance, you come to the practice with your puppy.
