Purchase/sales inspection

A clinical examination is the standard. After checking the passport and the chip, the certified equine veterinarian checks the entire horse from teeth and eyes to hooves and tail. The horse is examined from head to toe and various organ systems are examined. After complete inspection and palpation, auscultation of the heart and lungs at rest takes place.

After all the examinations have been carried out at rest, the veterinarian continues with the movement examination. The horse is sampled on a hard surface: by hand at walk and trot. To reveal any lameness, flexion tests are carried out. The veterinarian then tests the horse's coordination. Finally, the horse is lunged to assess the movements at walk, trot and gallop. After at least 10 minutes of (intensive) lunging, the veterinarian will check the heart. The horse then has 10 minutes of rest to normalize the heart rate. The veterinarian then auscultates again to note any heart abnormalities. After this, the clinical examination is completed.

Depending on the wishes of the (seller) buyer, an additional inspection can be chosen: the radiological inspection. A standard radiological inspection consists of 20 x-rays for screening the most common joint problems: from the hooves to the knees. In consultation, additional x-rays can also be made.

Further examinations are also possible. Think of blood tests, endoscopy or ultrasound. If blood tests are required, the blood is examined immediately and/or stored at the practice for at least 6 months.
